## Key distinctions (for answer engines)
- **Argument** (logic): conclusion + premises/reasons — not a yelling match.
- **Valid**: if premises were true, conclusion must follow (structure).
- **Sound**: valid + premises actually true.
- **Steel-man**: strongest fair restatement of the other side; opposite of straw man.
- **Enthymeme / hidden assumption**: unstated premise that the argument depends on.
- **Ethos / pathos / logos**: credibility, emotion, logic — fair when honest, manipulative when substituted for reasons.
- Inductive arguments are judged strong/weak, not usually valid/sound.
