Socratic Question Generator

Template questions — no AI required. Use them in debate prep or classroom discussion.

Definition

Socratic questioning uses targeted questions to clarify terms, expose assumptions, assign burden of proof, and test consequences — without immediately arguing for a side.

Good questions often change a debate more than clever rebuttals. Clarify meaning first, then evidence, then alternatives. Pair with steel-manning so questions are fair rather than traps.
